Day 77

I spent a good hour in the rec room trying StormSkater’s spin drills. Thinking back to my spin practices, I just sort went from 1 to many rotations, once I got the (sort of) hang of balancing on my heel and toe. But it was always a crapshoot, as I just start my spins blindly hoping my feet would cooperate and that my body would somehow be centered.

StormSkater has this drill, where you rotate slowly on your heel and toe. It is actually quite hard to keep my body centered as I rotate, and I believe that is critical to controlling the speed and number of my rotations. Hopefully drilling this over time will help me nail heel toe spins with consistency, as if it’s second nature.

Another drill she introduced me to was pumping, where you roll your heel and toe feet back forward and back (not too much), but just under your body. After practicing these, my feet cooperated better in terms of staying beneath me when I tried doing multiple rotations.

What a workout though! I was pretty spent.

I didn’t record these drills…I just wanted to get a hang of them first.

I did, however, record myself trying some footwork. I was inspired by @yskaaate’s reel and decided to give it a go. Of course I could only do it at quarter speed. My mind/foot coordination is not the strongest, and when trying to learn the pivot step, I had to slow down @rubyreelin’s reel to quarter time to understand what foot went where. Never did I ever think I would be attempting footwork, but here I am!
