Day 26

Skate time: 50 min

It was my 40th birthday and it was very difficult to find the motivation to skate. As soon as my husband said, “Happy Birthday!” when midnight struck, I felt depressed and sad. I recently had a failed IVF cycle after over two years of trying, and there continues to be no clear end in sight to my quest to become a mother. Nevertheless, I knew that skating–moving my body–would snap me out of the my depressive state, even if briefly, so I mustered the energy to claw through the cobwebs and skate.

Despite having to share the rec room with two brats who decided to throw a wiffle ball around and pelted me a couple times while I was roller skating, I was able to get into the zone and get my first taste of flow!

I slowed down dips and focused on extending my turn around as I curved the front wheels of my back foot. This actually helped me smoothe out my figure 8s, which I had been trying to master after watching @wrotki_365‘s video. I started to actually feel like I was dancing!

I also continued to drill spins and toe manuals–able to switch on toes!
