Skated about 50 min today. Typically my skate sessions–when I muster the courage to go downstairs to the rec room where I know the doormen will make fun of me skating–are structured as follows:
- First 10-15 min: warm-ups with forward and backward bubbles, forward and sumo squats, c-curves, some half-assed spins
- Next 10 min: I’ll do some drills to work up the courage to do dips and backward crosspulls (not there yet, but getting there). However, I have been improving on doing backwards bubbles in a circle! And I was able to do a crosspull here and there.
- Next 10 min: Practice transitions
- Next 10 min: Toe manuals and dribbles, but by this point, my legs are so shot. Maybe I should start with this next time
- Final 10 min: I might wrap up with some dance move, and today I was able to make a breakthrough on strutting!
Here’s the tutorial from Dee Dellimore that helped me make a breakthrough on strutting. I really appreciate Dee Dellimore’s clear breakdown of the move–specifially the key that unlocked my ability to roll backwards, leaning into the little toe of the front foot! I really appreciated her point that it may take WEEKS to really get this move down. Adding this to my drills.
