So yesterday (day 21) was a chill day. I didn’t look up new tutorials–just went back to some of the drills I tried before taking a 12 day break to support my IVF transfer. It was nice to get back into the swing of things. I probably skated for about 30 min.
Today, I kept the session short again. I wanted to avoid being watched by the building doormen on the security cameras, so I drilled a couple dance moves in my apartment: the Zero and the Figure 8.
The Zero
Following @tkrollerskates bookmarked tutorials, I found @vickymakesstuff’s tutorial on the Zero. I really liked the way Vicky breaks down the move in very distinct parts. Her tip on how to push off the back foot to slide sideways was super helpful. My first few attempts were really clumsy as I tried to transition from scissoring to pushing. But I focused on pushing off the back foot and positioning my front foot to be as perpendicular as possible. What also helped was weaving in @wrotki_365’s tips on doing the figure 8s. (Hello hips!) Not only did I focus on making the foot horizontal/perpendicular to my facing forward, but I also focused on leading with the hip, and it helped with the slide.
Figure 8
So this move was actually on my wish list of things to tackle from a few weeks back. I marveled at how the heck @wrotki_365 tackled this move literally by her 10th day of skating! I messaged her to ask her to help me break it down, and she pointed me to @rollinwithdeesh’s video on this (which was wayyyyyyy to fast for me). So I bugged Basia some more for additional tips, and she was kind enough to help me understand that this move was less about edging (although it might entail a little of that) and more about shifting weight and leading with the hips. Here is her tutorial on figure 8 that helped me immensely.
I probably skated about 30 min. Enough for me to make some progress and get introduced to some dance moves. Nice to keep it nice and chill.
