Welcome and Hello!

The Instagram algorithms got me. Somehow it managed to identify me via my doomscroll habits as a sucker for roller skating content, and months after getting bomboarded on my feed (there are worse things I suppose), I took the plunge and got myself roller skates.
The tip of the iceberg was seeing endless fun videos shot by Sarah Haywood of the opening of Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace at Rockefeller Center. Without doing much research, I made an impulse purchase of these skates made by Impala in collaboration with Cynthia Rowley (although I quickly moved on to Moxi Lolly’s).
I am starting this blog to capture not only footage of my clumsiness (as it hopefully progresses into less clumsiness), but also log my “lesson plans,” if you will: a day to day snapshot of what I worked on and my observations on what worked for me as a beginner to self-teach and progress as I sift through the deluge of resources available on the Internet. Mostly, this is me trying to organize the overwhelming amount of really helpful information in a way that I can process and apply to my novice skating.
I will be updating this blog on an ongoing basis doing my best to capture what I learned and how I feel about my progress whenever I have a chance to skate. My intention is also to summarize what I focused on as well as links to tutorials. Not sure if anyone will be reading this, but in the event that some roller skating ninja stumbles on this blog and has any tips to add, I welcome comments and feedback.
Happy roller skating!
